How We Design Fire Alarm Systems

Some alarm companies would have you believe that installing an alarm system is as simple as ordering a handful of pre-packaged components, following some quick instructions, and not misplacing your screwdriver. While those systems can have their place — a subject we’ll return to at some point — if you’re a Michigan homeowner or business owner, you’re better served by an alarm system that’s custom tailored to your property, installed and monitored by a security company like Vigilante Security. Today, we’re pulling back the curtain on our fire alarm system design and the work performed by our fire alarm system engineers.

Why It Matters

Before we get into what we’re doing, it’s worth taking a moment to consider why we do it. Going to your big box home center, or ordering from a company online, and getting a handful of smoke detectors is better than nothing, but it also has a significant problem: your protection won’t be all it could be, and it’s easy to get lulled into a false sense of security thinking you’re better protected than you actually are. In contrast, we customize each installation because every property is different. That gives you protection you can trust!

Our Design and Installation Process

We believe in teamwork. Your property is protected by the coordinated efforts of a number of fire engineering consultants and other professionals.

Property Inspection

We start here, studying the layout of your property, as well as the people and assets you’re protecting. We’re on the lookout for hazards as well; we’ll be giving you advice to make your home or business safer before we’ve even started work designing your system.

CAD Specialists

CAD — Computer Aided Drafting — gives our fire engineering consultants a 3-D understanding of your home. We want to fully understand the space we’re designing for, the better to ensure that you’re getting the right sensors and equipment installed in the right places.

Code Specialists

Building code and fire code requirements come into play for any number of reasons; commercial and residential properties are subject to inspection after construction, for instance. Your insurance company, certain licensing bodies, the fire marshal, and others will all want to be sure that your system is up to snuff, so our code specialists are involved at multiple steps of the process to ensure everything falls within the letter and spirit of the law.

Fire Engineering

Our fire engineering consultants are NICET certified. Their job is to ensure that every aspect of your fire alarm system has been properly designed and installed so that the system functions as designed for years to come.

Fire Alarm Installation

With all the time and effort put into fire alarm system design, nobody wants installation to be the weak link. Our installation team has many years’ worth of experience, and will get the job done right the first time.

Fire Alarm Monitoring

Just because your system is up and running doesn’t mean that our work is done. While you can tie your fire alarm system into a comprehensive environmental monitoring suite, or into a smart home system that you can monitor from anywhere, our UL-listed remote monitoring center is on duty around the clock, ensuring a rapid response at the first sign of trouble. To recap: a fire alarm system is important, but its source, design, and installation all play an important part in its effectiveness as well.
